Department of Rural Technology

The 10th plan Visiting committee of U.G.C., visited Rajasthan Vidyapeeth in March, 2003 taking in view the commendable educational & development work done by Rajasthan Vidyapeeth in the remote and tribal area of Udaipur district. The committee recommended to U.G.C.for setting up two new departments of Natural Resource Management and Rural Technology. The visiting committee in its report made the following remarks.

“The University need to adopt interdisciplinary approach. It is therefore recommended that the University should establish departments devoted to Natural Resource Management and Rural Technology, instead of setting new departments in the conventional area, in order to meet the need of the region.”

According to the recommend actions of the 10th plan visiting committee the University Grants Commission (U.G.C.) sanctioned two new departments to Rajasthan Vidyapeeth and also allocated funds for running these new departments. Thus this department of Rural Technology came into existence in the year 2003. Since its establishment the department has offered different courses.
 

 Courses offered

1.      B.Sc.(Rural Technology & Management)

There is need of good workers and professional managers at grass root level in the rural organizations and the agencies engaged in rural development. In view of this, Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth (Deemed) University, Udaipur attempts to prepare young talented workers and professionals managers through a well-structured B.Sc. (Rural Technology & Management) three-year degree programme. This unique programme comprises of six semesters with two segments-first is classroom teaching with practical orientation of different subjects during five semesters. Second is, one semester devoted for Rural Work Experience. During this semester students will be placed in the rural area with reputed NGO’s for fieldwork training where they will get experiential learning and practical application of knowledge and skill which they have learned in classroom teaching.

The objective to start this course is to develop skills and experience in different rural technologies with emphasis on practical experience among the students also to develop confidence in rural work by providing practical training in rural areas for six months. This will help in preparing them a good worker and professional manager at grass root level for the rural development work.

2.      B.Sc (Agriculture)

Students who have accomplished their education in the graduate level course in agriculture can get many job opportunities. The agricultural sector of India has got more importance these days and this has led to the taking in of experienced professionals’ or students of agriculture into many different departments of the Indian government. As the graduate level course in agriculture will comprise of topics from soil science to agricultural meteorology, aspirants will have an innate knowledge about relevant fields of this area. Jobs for aspirants within the public sector are quite ample. With the right qualification, a person can get employed as an Agricultural Research Scientist (ARS). Upon clearing the NET qualification, aspirants can start their career as a lecturer. Besides this, jobs are also available for aspirants as Block Development Officers (BDO) or Agriculture Development Officers. Jobs for students of B.Sc Agriculture can be got with banks, insurance companies and many other areas. Those who aspire to get jobs as lecturers shall need to have a Postgraduate level degree in the relevant field in addition to a NET or SET degree.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION    - The candidate must have passed 10+2 examination in Agriculture from any recognized board of Secondary Education.
